I’ve been here for nearly 44 years and am only realising the true potential of the cake on offer – but you can’t eat it unless you pick it up and go for it! I finally get what they mean when they say, ‘You can’t have your cake AND eat it too’ It means if you keep the cake, intending only to look at it, you can’t eat it as well. You have to choose one or the other.
Life is so like this. I have spent my years protecting my cake, managing it, analysing it, and dishing it out to others, but never really taking that first bite for myself. I know I will only get one. One chance at this physical experience called life. I know from my past that there may be pain and suffering, but each day also has its own element of beauty. I will never experience the delight of the flavours I love without tasting everything, even the bits I don’t enjoy.
In the memorable words of Forrest Gump, “Life is like a box of chocolates, you never know what you gonna get”, and you never will if you don’t take off the wrapping and consume it. Now how did I go from cake to chocolate 😏 hmmmm?
I have vowed to myself to try and live each day with a ‘what the heck attitude. Yes, some things may cause pain, but I am becoming very aware that much more is to be gained than I realised. Every day I try to do something differently, and I know that whatever the outcome, I either win or learn. I don’t lose unless I choose to label it as a loss. I want to know I have used every moment of my 24-hour day in valuable ways.
